15BLa palabra exactaJust the Right Word

Cada oracion tiene un grupo de palabras subrayadas (en el libro). Reemplazalo con UNA palabra del vocabulario que diga lo mismo. Quiza necesites cambiar la forma de la palabra (anadir -ed, -ing, etc.). Each sentence has an underlined phrase (in the book). Replace it with ONE word from the vocabulary list that means the same thing. You may need to change the form of the word (add -ed, -ing, etc.).

Estrategia Strategy

Lee la oracion una vez con la frase larga. Luego pregunta: "¿que palabra de mi lista significa esto?" Si dudas, mira la lista de vocabulario al lado y prueba cada candidata mentalmente en la oracion. Read the sentence once with the long phrase. Then ask: "which word on my list means this?" If you're stuck, glance at the vocab list to the side and try each candidate in the sentence mentally.

Example: "Skirmish is to battle as ___ is to ___." This forces you to think about the relationship, not just the words.

Paso 2. Etiqueta la relacion (grado, parte/todo, adjetivo/sustantivo, opuestos, sinonimos, etc.). Step 2. Label the relationship (degree, part/whole, adjective/noun, opposites, synonyms, etc.).

Paso 3. Prueba cada opcion con esa misma etiqueta. Solo una encajara perfectamente. Step 3. Test each option with that same label. Only one will fit cleanly.

De que trata este pasaje What This Passage Is About

The passage on pages 178 - 179, "Our Brightest Star," explains why the sun seems special when it's really a very ordinary star. It covers: old beliefs (people thought the sun revolved around Earth), why it appears so bright (it's close - just 93 million miles away), what it's made of (mostly hydrogen, which fuses into helium), and how it will eventually die (it will expand so much it will envelop nearby planets, including Earth - in five billion years).

La estrategia de dos pasos The Two-Step Strategy
